This is my first time participating in Let’s Talk Bookish! I’m super excited because these topics look really fun! This weekly meme is hosted by Dani@Literary Lion and Rukky@Eternity Books. They both have great blogs that you should go check out!
Romance as a subplot: Is romance better as a subplot or main plot?
I really prefer it as a subplot, like it is in many YA books. When it is a main plot, it can get kinda icky, cliche, and boring. Although I haven’t read any books in the Romance genre, I’ve read enough books with romance as a subplot genre to say that, “any more is too much more.”
That’s all for today. Thanks for reading! What do you think? Is romance better as a subplot or a main plot? Why? Do you tend to read more main plot romance or subplot romance? Feel free to share in the comment section or begin to participate in Let’s Talk Bookish. God bless!
True, good point about the cliche… I agree! Especially when I read mostly fantasy or historical fiction the emphasis is on adventure and the human spirit respectively and too overbearing romance does overshadow the main focuses. Great post!

I absolutely agree with you! Romance is much better off as a sub plot or a sub if the sub plot😂 It indeed gets too predictable and boring.

I really like your take on the topic this week! I definitely agree that I’m not super into romance as the main plot of books. There are a few a like but they’re far between.

When it comes to romance in books, I think less is more! I came here from Erin’s blog party and I love your blog! Leaving a follow 🙂

Thank you so much, Bernadine!! What do you mean by less is more?

Less romance; I feel like when reading, if a book has too much it becomes awfully cheesy!

Yes true! Thanks for clarifying.

I also prefer it as a subplot! I’ve never been much of a romance reader myself.

I don’t have a problem with either. The problem with romance for me, be it a subplot or main plot, is that it shouldn’t be cliche, messy, and abrupt. If that’s the case, I would rather be reading a book without romance in it.
